Leadership at Little Bees – Captain of the Hive
At Little Bees International Play School, we believe that every child is born with the potential to lead. Our unique initiative “Captain of the Hive” is India’s first preschool-level leadership and democratic election program designed exclusively for young learners.
Why Leadership Skills Matter in Early Childhood
Leadership is not about age — it’s about confidence, responsibility, communication, decision making, and empathy. The foundation for these qualities begins in early childhood.
By introducing leadership concepts at the preschool level, we help children:
- Build confidence and express their ideas openly
- Develop teamwork, cooperation, and classroom responsibility
- Understand fairness, choices, and consequences
- Improve communication and social interaction
- Learn empathy and the importance of helping others
- Feel accountable for their classroom environment
What is “Captain of the Hive”?
At Little Bees, every classroom is called a Hive — a place where children learn, grow, and work together like bees in a happy colony.
To inspire leadership, each Hive has its own elected leader called the Captain of the Hive. This captain is a preschooler chosen democratically by classmates through a simple, child-friendly election process.
How the Election Works
Our simplified, joyful election system helps children learn about leadership, responsibility, and democratic values in a fun and age-appropriate way.
🟡 Nomination
Interested children come forward (with teacher guidance) and share why they want to be the Captain of the Hive.
🟡 Friendly Campaign
Each child introduces themselves, shares their strengths, and explains how they will help their friends and the classroom.
🟡 Voting Day
Children vote using simple child-safe ballots, picture cards, or colored tokens — learning fairness and choice.
🟡 Announcement of Captain
The votes are counted, and the new Captain is announced and appreciated by the whole Hive. Every child feels valued and celebrated.
The Role of the Captain
The Captain of the Hive leads with kindness, supports classmates, and helps teachers with little responsibilities that build confidence and character.
- Helping classmates during activities
- Leading the morning line or circle time
- Maintaining classroom cleanliness alerts
- Helping distribute materials
- Encouraging teamwork and turn-taking
Every child gets an opportunity to become Captain during the academic year — ensuring equal participation and skill building.
Little Bees – The First Preschool to Introduce Classroom Elections
We are proud to be the first preschool in India to introduce a structured democratic election system for preschoolers. This initiative not only builds leadership qualities but also nurtures decision-making, confidence, teamwork, and social responsibility at a very early age.
